The facts on our clumsiness

Most common accidents in the work place

In the UK, efforts to improve health and safety at work have seen a decline in accidents at work, but despite that, around half a million workers each year suffer an accident at work, according to the Health and Safety Executive. The most common accidents are:

Falling from a height
Being struck by a moving object
Being struck by a vehicle
Being crushed under rubble or other collapsed or fallen objects

It’s not surprising that construction is one of the most dangerous industries to work in, as are electrical, chemical and petro-chemical industries. Deep-sea fishing, whilst not so well-known, is extremely dangerous as it involves working with heavy equipment whilst on a vehicle subject to weather conditions.

In the more mundane workplace, offices, factories and retail, injuries to the body can arise from long-term stress on parts of the body. Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) is strain to tendons from too much keyboard work. Computer screens can cause eye strain and bad seating can damage the spine.
White Finger Vibration (WFV) is common amongst road working crews who use pneumatic drills in the course of their work.

Most common injuries in car accident claims

In road traffic accidents, whiplash injuries are the most common, accounting for a staggering 70% of accident claims UK. This statistic is the driver behind the recent change in the “no win no fee” arrangements introduced by the government earlier this year, in an attempt to deter the bogus claims for an injury which is hard to prove. Media reports repeatedly claim that Britain is the whiplash capital of Europe, but possibly don’t give enough weight to the fact that our landmass carries proportionately more traffic per mile than bigger countries like France and Spain.

Start your claim

If you are unfortunate enough to be a victim of any of these kinds of accidents, then you should consider using your entitlement under English Law to claim for accident compensation. There are many personal injury compensation claim firms who can give you expert advice and guide you through the process. The majority offer the services of legal experts who provide a “no win no fee” service and do not ask for payment in advance. Again, most of them have a Freephone number for direct contact and will give an initial consultation without obligation on your part. You can at least get the advice and information you need about the eligibility of your claim and how much it might be worth. At that point you can decide to start your claim or not.
