Ending a Relationship – How best to go about it

It is reported that in a recent magazine interview, pop star Katy Perry confirmed rumours which circulated at the time of her separation that ex-husband Russell Brand, dumped her by text message – informing her by SMS that he was going to Divorce her.

The age old dilemma of how best to deal with the difficult task of Ending a Relationship is one which many people have to deal with. Unfortunately, as divorce lawyers, we often see how wrong it can go, and the lasting effects of doing it in the wrong way.

The ending of a relationship is often a painful time in itself, but if it’s handled badly, it can make the situation far, far worse, and significantly increase the levels of animosity. This can be particularly unfortunate if divorce proceedings are then to follow in quick succession, as the increased levels of  hurt and emotion can lead people to want to deal with the proceedings in an altogether different way than in the case of a more amicable parting. This often has the effect of making matters more protracted and more expensive.

A good divorce lawyer can help to take the heat out of a highly inflamed situation, and ensure that things progress as smoothly as possible, and explain the pros and cons of any particular course of action, rather than encouraging needless litigation which may have short term satisfaction but no long term gain.
